David Grossman

Born in Jerusalem in 1954, David Grossman is one of the leading Israeli writers of his generation. He has been wrestling with the trauma of war and the prospects for peace, as well as love, jealousy, and family relationships for more than three decades. In his first novel, SEE UNDER: LOVE, he grappled with the legacy of the Holocaust. In THE YELLOW WIND, he foresaw the explosive first intifada, and in his bestselling TO THE END OF THE LAND, he hauntingly portrayed a mother's love for her son in a time of conflict.

He is the author of 14 books of fiction, 6 nonfiction titles and 16 books for kids; his works have been translated into forty-five languages around the world. His writing has appeared in international magazines such as The New Yorker, The Guardian, De Standaard, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, The New York Times and many others, and several of his books have been adapted to international stage and screen productions.

Winner of the 2017 Man Booker International Prize, 2018 Israel Prize and 2022 Erasmus Prize.

Awards: David Grossman has received  numerous awards, including Chevalier de l’Ordre des Artes et des Lettres (France), Prix Eliette Von Karajan (Austria), The Marsh Award for Children’s Literature in Translation (UK), the Buxtehuder Bulle (Germany), the Sapir Prize (Israel), the Premio per la Pace e l’Azione Umanitaria 2006 (City of Rome/Italy), Onorificenza della Stella Solidarita Italiana 2007, Premio Ischia – International Award for Journalism 2007, the EMET Award 2007 (Israel), the Geschwister Scholl Prize 2008 (Germany),the Albatross Prize, awarded by the Gunter Grass Foundation. Grossman was also the recipient of the prestigious Peace Prize of the German Booksellers Association in Frankfurt 2010 and France's Prix Medicis for translated literature in 2011, as well as the 2012 Brenner Prize (Israel). In 2013 he received the French Point award for most beloved book by readers and critics (TO THE END OF THE LAND) and the Italian Fundazione Calcari for Lifetime Achievement.
